When looking to buy a new carpet for your home, it’s only normal that you want to shop around. You want to find the best carpet for your home, and you also want to find the best-priced carpet; but how much will this cost?
Unlike buying your bread in the supermarket, there is a lot involved in the cost of the carpet. It’s not just the carpet you are buying, you might need underlay, grippers, and door bars, you’ll need to pay to get it fitted too.
So, in this blog post, we look at how much a new carpet costs, the full cost of a new carpet, not just the carpet itself.
Refreshing On Your Budget
Refreshing your old carpet or flooring with a brand-new carpet is a brilliantly effective and fast way of immediately improving the look and feel of your home, as well as the value of your property. However, it can be costly. This is why you need to take the time to think about your carpet budget and how much you can afford.
Generally speaking, the average installation cost for a new carpet will be around £4-£5 per square metre. However, there are minimum charges for small rooms and surcharges for more complicated areas such as stairways. As you can see, this is quite the difference in price. That is due to the quality and type of carpet that you choose. Just as cars are different prices, carpets are different prices too. It’s dependent on the make, colour, style and quality.
If you were looking at a middle-of-the-range, standard carpet for your home, you can expect to pay around £15 per square metre. Generally speaking, the average-sized bedroom is around 15 metres squared. This would therefore cost around £225. You will also need to pay the fitting costs for the carpet. Here at Hereward Carpets, we have an experienced team of carpet fitters, so the carpet will be fitted quickly, professionally and efficiently, to a very high standard. Based on the example above you can expect to pay between £60 and £100 for the carpet to be fitted in a room this size, depending on specific requirements and the location of the property.
Essential Accessories
If you need an underlay for your carpet, which is highly recommended, this will need to be added on. Please note that manufacturer warranties often stipulate that new underlay is required for the validity of the wear warranty. You will also need to pay for waste removal of an old carpet or flooring in the room. Based on these additional costs, you can expect to pay around £400 – £500 for a carpet to be fitted in a standard-sized room, with a mid-range carpet.
