What Is Vinyl Flooring? You may have come across vinyl flooring (or lino as it where) or heard others mention it. Vinyl flooring is a really popular flooring option and for good reason too. In this blog post, we look at what vinyl flooring is, which rooms it works well in and why.

If you’d like to have a look at our extensive collection, you’d be more than welcome to pop into our flooring showroom in Peterborough. You can touch, feel and compare all the different flooring types to find the best one for you. No appointment is necessary.

Waterproof With Ease

Vinyl flooring comes in large and continuous sheets. It is a good bathroom and kitchen floor option as it is waterproof. Is also available in tiles as opposed to sheets, known as Luxury Vinyl Tiles. This flooring is much stiffer than the sheets of flooring. The vinyl tiles can then be placed together to create a uniquely patterned and attractive finish.

Fuss Free Maintenance

Another great thing about vinyl is that it is really easy to maintain. You don’t need to give it any special care, other than just keeping it clean with a standard mopping routine and clearing up spillages as you go.

Soft And Quiet Underfoot

Vinyl isn’t a new flooring option. It first became popular in the 1930’s and has grown in popularity since. It became a major competitor in the water-resistant flooring industry in the 1950’s. Vinyl flooring has since become the biggest leader in the market for water-resistant flooring. A major factor in its popularity is that it is also available in numerous colours, patterns and styles (too many we say). What our customers really like most about their vinyl is that it gives the impression of a sprung performance floor. This is due to the closed-cell or cushion backing of the flooring. This extra layer of softness offers extra comfort underfoot and ensures very quiet steps.

Slip Resistance

Vinyl flooring is well known for being nonslip flooring, and this is due to the resistant layer. There are different classes of resistance, but the most common slip-resistant rating for home use is R10. The flooring is also rated by the wear layer. This layer is responsible for everyday life and wear and tear on the vinyl. You don’t necessarily gauge the quality of the vinyl by its overall thickness, the most important part is actually the thickness of the wear layer. This can be anything from 0.20mm up to 0.55mm.

There are lots of advantages to vinyl compared to other flooring options. The biggest advantage is that the flooring is water-resistant, as we have already mentioned. It is also low maintenance and relatively inexpensive. Vinyl floors are known to offer durability and be stain resistant too.
