The right landing flooring for your home will mainly come down to personal taste and style. You and those living in your home will have an idea of the colour, pattern, style and finish you want to see on your landing. Once you have figured that out, we can help recommend the right flooring type for your home. This will depend on footfall for your home and some other considerations too.

Functional

It’s important to note that the landing is classed as a high-traffic spot. This means it is an area that is trodden on every day and probably multiple times a day. You need to ensure that your landing flooring is functional. However, it also needs to meet the tastes of your family, while complimenting your home.

The most common choice of flooring for landings and hallways is something neutral. This way, it isn’t offensive when placed with other flooring types and colours. It also helps to bring the whole house together.

Laminate

Laminate flooring is often a popular choice for landing areas. This is because it is easy to clean and maintain. The downside of laminate flooring is that it can be noisy underfoot. This isn’t ideal if family members are moving along the hallway through the night, or if you have pets and their tippy-tapping paws in the early hours of the morning.

Vinyl

Vinyl floor is popular for landings too. This is because it offers high durability. Similarly, to laminate flooring, it is also very easy to clean and maintain. Vinyl flooring will be able to withstand heavy foot traffic too. However, if you are likely to have heavy footfall on the landing, it can be noisy for those in the rooms below.

LVT

LVT flooring is another option that you may want to consider. It is extremely tough and easy to maintain. LVT flooring offers pet and child-friendly qualities too, making it ideal for busy family homes. LVT flooring can give you the look of realistic wood flooring. However, the price tag is lower than real wood flooring, and you don’t have the hassle and worry of maintaining it properly.

Carpet

Light brown and beige carpets are also popular flooring options for this area of the home. You will just need to think about how much foot traffic there will be. A carpet that has a short and dense pile would be recommended, so it looks as good as new for longer. This is because the concentrated footfall will tread a thick pile of carpet down quickly, causing a matted and aged appearance.
