Having a playroom is a great way to keep the home tidy and toy-free. It gives your children a space to be free, enjoy themselves and make a mess – without affecting the rest of the home. However, you must make the right choice of flooring for your playroom.

While it is there for the enjoyment of your children, it needs to look good and withstand the test of toys, rough play and time. Your playroom flooring should be durable. It also needs to be comfortable for your children to play on. You want a flooring that looks good. Most importantly perhaps, you want a playroom flooring that is stain resistant.

Carpet

You could opt for a carpet for your playroom. It’s a great option as it’s soft. This means that it can cushion a blow if the children are playing or fall over. It’s relatively easy to clean, and you can choose a cost-effective carpet too. Carpet is also available in a wide range of colours.

You may be thinking that carpet for a playroom is a terrible idea due to the risk of spillages. However, what many people don’t realise is that there are loads of incredible stain-resistant brands of carpet on the market. Take Captivation for example, this is a 100% polypropylene twist pile carpet that has a 10-year wear warranty, and a stain-free for life guarantee for added peace of mind.

If you’re worried about the durability of a carpet or wear and tear from heavy use, you could always opt for a rug too. This will offer that extra bit of protection and increase the longevity of the carpet while adding a splash or personality to the playroom too.

Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is a popular choice for anywhere in the home due to its durability. If you have laminate elsewhere in your home, such as hallways or adjoining rooms to the playroom, then laminate for your playroom is a great idea to bring the home together.

It’s available in a wide range of colours and is true to nature with incorporated wood grain. Our best-selling range is Quick-Step Impressive. A stunning example of nature with a 25-year wear warranty, and a 10-year water-resistant warranty.

One of the biggest benefits of laminate flooring is that it is easy to clean and maintain. This is a big plus in playrooms where children are left to have fun and explore. It’s great for racing cars across too.

If you do opt for laminate flooring, we would recommend a rug too. This will add a splash of colour to the room and give a softer base for younger children to play. The rug can then be changed as the children grow and the theme of the room changes.

Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring is a great choice for a playroom due to its versatility. It has a softer feel than laminate flooring, making it ideal for younger children. Vinyl is also extremely stain-resistant. In addition, it is super easy to clean too. Generally speaking, it’s relatively low cost and available in a range of colours and patterns to suit your home and tastes.

If your children have toys with wheels or pull-along toys, this is a great flooring option for racing them. Just like laminate, we would recommend a rug on the flooring too. This offers warmth and comfort for younger children who enjoy playing on the floor. Again, the rug can be swapped in and out as the children grow older and their tastes change.
