Here at Hereward Carpets in Peterborough, we offer a wide range of flooring options including carpets, rugs, vinyl, laminate and LVT flooring. In this blog post, we want to look at why you should consider a laminate floor in your home. Take a look at our guide to laminate flooring, so you can see why it could be ideal for your property.

What is Laminate Flooring?

Laminate floors offer you the texture and look of wood or stone, but they are kinder on the bank balance and more practical too. This type of floor is tough and durable, and it’s easy to maintain too. If you have small children and toys, or pets, this could be the perfect flooring for your home. It’s a perfect all-rounder type of flooring for the whole home.

Is Laminate Durable?

Laminate floors are known for their durability. This makes it ideal for the busy areas of your home such as the entrance hallway or kitchen for example. The printed layer of the floor is made to look like the wood or stone floor of your dreams. It is then sandwiched beneath several layers of melamine that are pressed onto the high-density fibre board using high pressure and heat. This top layer, which includes a registered embossed finish, ensures that the laminate is water-resistant, scratch-resistant, and stain-resistant while maintaining ultimate protection against everyday wear and tear.

Where Can I Have Laminate Floors?

As we have already stated, laminate floors are a great all-rounder and perfect for any room. However, they are most commonly used in dining rooms, living rooms, hallways and kitchens. They’re great for bedrooms too. Add a rug and you’ve created the perfect look and feel for bare feet in the morning.

What will happen during the measuring and fitting of my laminate flooring?

Hereward Carpets offers a free, no-obligation, measuring service. If you are interested in having laminate flooring in your home, simply book an appointment. During the measuring service, will will take the room sizes and check the subfloors, if possible, for suitability. Your subfloor needs to be somewhat smooth in order to fit laminate flooring. If remedial work is required, don’t worry, we can prepare the subfloor accordingly.

We will also discuss the finish of the laminate flooring, and if skirting boards or matching scotia is required. Click here for more skirting board information.

Once you have chosen the colour and placed your order, you will receive a few dates to pop in your diary. We need to acclimatise all laminate flooring for 48 hours prior to fitting, so one of the team from Hereward Carpets will deliver the packs of laminate and place them in the room they are to be laid in. If subfloor preparation is required, this will be your first fitting date, and generally, the following day the fitters will return to lay the flooring.

We recommend that the laminate flooring is fitted 90 degrees to any floorboards for added strength, and the room will look more aesthetically pleasing (and bigger) if the planks are laid following the longest length of the room. Laying the planks along the shorter length will make the room appear wider.

When your laminate flooring is professionally installed, all you need to worry about is who to show it off to first!
