When fitting our click system laminate or LVT flooring, they require an expansion gap to accommodate the expansion and contraction of the flooring caused by the fluctuating temperature of the room. Therefore, if you are not planning to remove old skirting boards and have new ones fitted on top of the flooring, a colour marching scotia is necessary to cover the expansion gap.
Our fitters are more than happy to fit new skirting boards, but unfortunately, they will not remove the existing ones due to the risk of damage to the walls and plaster. Of course, a skirting board finish is an aesthetically cleaner finish, but some people do not want to go through the hassle of removing skirting boards, so scotia will be used in these cases.

- Matching the doorway architraves is key. Having the same style and depth keeps an even finish when the skirting board is paired next to the door frame.

- Make sure there are no obstructions if you are opting for taller skirting boards to perhaps cover damage to the wall on removal of the old boards. Look for things such as radiator pipes that may be in the way of fitting your new skirting boards.
- If you are opting for LVT or vinyl flooring, but already have laminate fitted under skirting boards, you may need to change your skirting boards due to the new position required. Flooring of different depths may leave a noticeable space under the skirting boards if your new flooring is thinner.
