Does Underlay Matter?

We are often asked does underlay matter, or what underlay is best for our room. Our first answer is always “Yes”. The soft and luxurious feel of your new carpet does not come from the carpet alone, but the type and quality of underlay it is combined with. Using new underlay in your room will not only enhance the feel of your new carpet but will also validate your carpet warranty.

Underlay fit for purpose

Underlay is an essential part of your renovation and it works together with your new carpet. The underlay will not only provide the out-of-this-world underfoot feeling but will assist the wear and longevity of your carpet.

I’m afraid the underlay will not last a lifetime and will need replacing, ideally with every new carpet, as carpet warranties will be void if new underlay is not laid at the same time. But choosing the right underlay that is fit for purpose is the key.

Do I need underlay with Laminate Flooring?

The majority of our laminate floors require underlay to be used. We strongly recommend the use of Timbermate Excel as we know this has the qualities to perform. By using this fantastic underlay, you will have peace of mind knowing it combines a quiet underfoot sound with a damp-proof membrane. The acoustic qualities and added barrier will ensure any room in your home is ready to rock and roll.

For rooms with underfloor heating, we would recommend the use of Heatflow. This underlay aids the flow of the warm air passing through it.
